(yes, the one which AJ and VJC took part in and got 1st in their category) Gold medal (there isnt any with honours nonsense in this, Gold is the highest medal), runner-up in the Mixed Choir Category. 4th overall if I'm not wrong. (http://www.musica-mundi.com/fileadmin/pdf_data/china/xiamen/Result_Overview_WCG2006.pdf for full results, http://vc.org.sg/news/vc_runnerup_in_choir_olympics.php for more reading) let's see things from a bigger perspective. syf is over, the results are out and we achieved what we aimed for. let's be contented. no more of the who got 1st, who got honourable mention etc. there's a whole world out there, thousands and thousands of choirs, millions of choristers like ourselves. does choral music end at syf? is choral music all about syf, or competition in general? does it mean get 1st, can quit and retire already? why do people join choir? (over-asked questions) zoom out abit. look at the entire choral community. millions of people, organised into thousands of choirs in many different nations. all of different skin colour. all speak different languages. all of different religion (or none). wait. being in different countries is reason enough for them to not see each other ever in their lives. difference in racial identity, religion can even make them fight each other. (think history) why choir? (from macro to micro) World Choir Games took choirs out of their countries to meet each other. Oversea exchange/competitions took Singaporean choirs out of this tiny island to see the world. SYF took Singapore choirs out of their own organisations (Sec Sch, JC etc). Exchange programmes took us out of NJ to see other choirs out there. Choir took us out of academic classes to meet new people. ..... for the concept of COMPETITION to bring together all these millions of people towards a common goal, it has created opportunity for different people(s) to communicate and understand each other. let us understand that regardless of how we look, the language we speak, our beliefs, we CAN live in harmony by making the same music. patience, in practice. perserverance, in struggles. teamwork, in achieving. forgiveness, in mistakes. consistency, in reprodution. dedication, in circumstances. discpline, in situations. faith, in uncertainty. for music knows no boundaries, for music makes the world go round. if there's one thing that'd save the world, it'd be music. when the whole world can just stop for a moment, and learn to SING in harmony. .....
